I had 2 shots of a vaccine, because where I work we do high-risk COVID-19 research on animals (sheep, mice, primates etc) and thus being in contact with those could potentially become fatal (we do mutation or “gain of function”)

@disillusioned: if you isolate yourself from people and diseases like that, you have a much greater chance of getting long-term allergies and other sensitivities. You also tend to get more serious cases of disease when (not if) you eventually catch something.
If you’re that worried of a cold or flu, then you shouldn’t drive a car or eat most foods available, cancer and heart disease are more likely to do you in. Once vaccinated or if you’re young there is a greater chance of you dying in a car accident than from COVID. If you’re under 40, better not go outside at all, the chance of a lightning strike or drowning is greater.

The Crazy World of Online Deliveries
by Simon inyou order something online, and get the notification it's been shipped.. "ooh look, it's only coming from 500 miles away and there's a major route from there to here.
i bet it'll be put on a truck or maybe a train and here in a day or two.
great!".

@darkknight: add insurance for a value of $100 or more, you’ll practically have full streaming video from the entire trip the package took. You do it with USPS and you get a personal call from the postmaster that they found your package on the floor of the sorting center.
Even better when you declare it as being alcohol, a firearm or ammo. You’ll have the FBI and ATF assisting in the search.
Where I used to work we used to ship medical and slightly radioactive samples. The cost wasn’t outrageous but I wouldn’t be surprised if they had armed guards looking at your package the whole way, they call you at customs, call you when it arrives at every point. I’m getting woken up at 4am asking if we can receive them that day. I think it was only $25 fee for that, but it’s guaranteed to arrive on your schedule.

Agree, it takes the equivalent of 10,000 disposable plastic bags to make 1 reusable bag. That’s a ton of plastic and energy that is eventually going to end up in the same place. Same goes for those stupid paper straws, between the weight and the extra plastic and paper, it takes about 120 plastic straws to break even on a single paper one and the paper ones need special disposal for recycling.
Greenpeace and co is largely responsible for all the coal plants still in operation and about 50% of carbon emissions today could’ve been cut by going all in on nuclear in the 80s and 90s.

If you understand why, it isn’t so crazy. It costs ~$0.3 to ship a box the size of a shoebox from the Asia to the US. So you can imagine that smaller distances are just fractions of that cost.
The human labor involved in separating local traffic and doing small deliveries rather than just aggregating them would outstrip the cost of shipping them back to a main center.
It is mind boggling how expensive human labor is, thus automated shipping systems resulting in large scale aggregation is worth it.
On the other hand, waiting for a box to fill to optimize last mile deliveries, takes up space and labor just as well, hence you get the cases where Amazon will ship 3 packages through 3 different couriers in the same day. -

Baldwiin, I did not pull the trigger or point the gun at anyone. LMFAO

It’s CNN so I would expect nothing less than propaganda like that. These people do indeed believe that guns go off without pulling the trigger or SUVs run into crowds and murder people all on their own.
It’s impossible for a gun to go off without someone pulling the trigger. The only place where it is possible to have accidental discharge is a very old mechanisms without safety that may go off if you drop them very hard, the hammer may strike the cartridge. Some rifles have this issue, handguns less so.

I wonder how this is considered to the division of church and state in the EU. Also seems like a great scam, since you can just start a church, claim thousands of members and get free income.
Your tax dollars at work, funding religions.

Is Bible prophecy now starting to come true regarding the prelude to the great tribulation?
by Disillusioned JW inis bible prophecy now starting to come true regarding a prelude to the great tribulation?.
full disclosure: i still don't believe in the bible's claims about the existence of the supernatural, even of jehovah god (i'm an atheist and a scientific/philosophical naturalist), but i am asking this question because recent events are starting to seem (to me) to fit well the description of some prophecies in the bible.
consider the following.. several hours ago (on 11-26-2021) as i was about to enter a local fred meyer store of my city (in suburb or small city in the metro area of a large city) a person i know told me that a moment earlier a person left the store in a hurry with a cart load up with unpaid merchandise (i think i was told it was groceries but i don't remember that for sure).

These are just the pendulums of time. Every 120 years or so we see massive events that define generations. This comes with famine, pestilence, war, death and eventual salvation. We’re now entering an era defined by war after exiting a long period of relative peace and prosperity. Within 30 years this will all be over and there will be another 100 years of massive progress given capitalism survives in certain areas, but there will be areas similar to the Soviet Union, continuously repressed for another 70+ years and it is very likely that will be the EU and parts of the US.
The problem is that the majority of people is never going to be happy with everything. It’s just human nature. But this also makes every prophecy without a specific date come true eventually and repeatedly.

QUESTION of the DAY (a brain teaser)
by Terry inquestion of the dayeach man chosen of the twelve jesus selected had been called disciples, or "students" (meaning "one who learns").
(latin discipulus; greek μαθητής mathētḗs; hebrew לִמּוּד limmûdh;jesus is stated in the bible to have sent out the twelve using a new description: apostles, "whom he also named apostles" (luke 6:13), first before his death "to the lost sheep of israel" (matthew 10), and after his (resurrection to spread the message of the good news to all nations (matthew 28:16-28:20).with the above firmly in mind, the question arises: “why aren’t the governing body called apostles?”.

The way the JW’s used to explain it is that Apostles were only the disciples of Jesus that had originally been with Jesus when he was alive. Their explanation is that until they started the JW organization after Jesus death, all other disciples stopped following Jesus when he was arrested.
Thus nobody today can call themselves apostles (typically this is used as an indication against the catholic and orthodox churches that say bishops and popes are the direct successors of the apostels).
I do know this ignores plenty of key scriptures that the Catholic and Orthodox Church uses, but I guess that’s just par for the course.

Renting to a Witness of the opposite sex...
by James Robinson ini need a question answered.
i know of a situation where a single sister took in a single brother as a renter, so she could be his caregiver, as he was very along in years.. long story short, they were forced to get married.
i believe it was labeled under "appearance of evil" by the elders.. my question is: what do the elders base this on?

There are plenty of publications that say that if you stay overnight with a member of the opposite sex, you probably have committed fornication, with very few exceptions.
Hope she gets his money though :)
